I build useful systems,
creative projects,
and practical tools.

Infrastructure engineer by trade, maker by instinct. I work across operations, homelab, game development, and physical fabrication — whatever the project calls for.

A hands-on builder who works across the stack — and the shop floor.

I'm Taylor McGee, a technical lead with a background in NOC operations, service management, and infrastructure. I've spent years designing monitoring systems, building automation pipelines, and keeping complex environments running reliably.

Outside of operations work, I build things. Game prototypes in Unreal Engine, custom enclosures on a 3D printer, laser-engraved projects, home automation, and self-hosted infrastructure I actually trust. I enjoy the overlap between digital and physical — where software meets something tangible.

I'm drawn to projects that require both systems thinking and creative problem-solving. If it involves designing something from scratch, automating something tedious, or building something that didn't exist before, I'm probably interested.

Areas where I spend my time

A look at the kinds of projects and systems I build and maintain. Each area has more depth than fits on a landing page — case studies coming.

Infrastructure & Homelab

Self-hosted infrastructure built to actually work. Proxmox clusters, containerized services, custom networking, and monitoring stacks — maintained like production because the habits matter. Includes McGee Labs, a personal homelab-as-platform project.

Docker Proxmox Linux Self-hosting

Game Development

Prototypes, game systems, and playable experiments built in Unreal Engine. Focused on mechanics that feel good before anything else. Less about shipping a finished product, more about understanding how systems interact and what makes play satisfying.

Unreal Engine C++ Blueprints Game Systems

Maker Projects

Custom enclosures, laser-engraved pieces, and fabricated parts designed to solve specific problems or make something better than what's commercially available. 3D printing and laser work used as engineering tools, not just for decoration.

3D Printing Laser Engraving CAD Fabrication

Automation & Tools

Scripts, bots, dashboards, and internal tools built to reduce friction and automate the repetitive. ServiceNow workflows, monitoring integrations, Discord bots, CLI utilities — tools that make daily operations faster and less error-prone.

What I'm building now

These are the active threads. Things I'm deep in, experimenting with, or iterating on right now.

Infrastructure, monitoring, and automation

Expanding McGee Labs — self-hosted services, alerting pipelines, and internal tooling. Building infrastructure that's reliable, observable, and easy to maintain without a team.

Game systems and playable prototypes

Developing game mechanics and systems in Unreal Engine. Focused on building playable prototypes that test specific design ideas before committing to full production scope.

Maker projects and custom fabrication

Active projects on the 3D printer and laser — enclosures, parts, and custom pieces. Designing for function first, finishing for quality.

Practical tools that reduce friction

Small internal tools, scripts, and utilities that eliminate repetitive work. If I'm doing something manually more than twice, I build a tool.

Let's work together — or just talk shop.
